They remained together until Wade's death at Sydney 0n 2 April 1818. To bring together descendants of Mary Wade and to preserve, share and extend the knowledge of our shared family history. Up to 50 inmates and officers were ultimately treated in a makeshift triage in the centre's exercise yard. Three NSW Correctives officers have been praised for their heroic efforts in saving two inmates trapped in a jail cell fire. Opening the door to a burning cell, the officers realised one female inmate was trapped inside by flames while another had managed to burst out but had fallen unconscious in the hallway.
Mary lived with Jonathan Brooker near the Hawkesbury River from 1809. It was here that Mary raised her family which numbered 21 children, seven of whom lived to have their own children. Jonathan was given his Certificate of Freedom in February 1811 and then given a grant of 60 acres at Tarrawanna, New South Wales by Governor Macquarie. Mary finally received her Certificate of Freedom on the first of September 1812. In 1816 they settled on the property of Airds in Campbelltown, New South Wales with their family.

  • Wade left Norfolk Island on the Francis on 2 February 1794 and in 1806 was recorded as living with Atkinson with one illegitimate son.
  • Up to 50 officers and inmates were treated for smoke inhalation at a makeshift triage.
  • The project purpose was to transform Juniperina Juvenile Justice Centre to Mary Wade Maximum Security Female Remand Centre in Lidcombe.

This generally means clothes must be respectable and not too provocative. The recent development of the Dinosaur Trail tourism initiative is based on her pioneering endeavours. In addition, without her work the current rush of dinosaur excavations would not be progressing. She had many important discoveries and fossil projects to her creditan was a pioneer of Queensland's dinosaur tourism industry. In addition, some articles contain terms or views that were acceptable within mainstream Australian culture in the period in which they were written, but may no longer be considered appropriate. "They put their own lives in harm's way to save two lives and prevent what could have been a significant fire," NSW Corrective Services Commissioner Peter Severin said.
As far as the records show, she was the youngest  female to be transported to the Antipodes. She sailed with the Second Fleet, on the Lady Juliana, a ship comprised entirely of women convicts. It had been noted by the authorities that the colony was in ‘great need of women.
On 11 March 1789, King George III was proclaimed cured of an unnamed madness; it is assumed that he suffered from porphyria, a degenerative mental disease. Five days later, in the spirit of celebration, all the women on death row, including Mary Wade, had their sentences commuted to penal transportation to Australia. She spent 93 days in the Newgate Prison before being transported on the Lady Juliana to Australia, which was the first convict ship to hold a cargo made up entirely of women and children. After an 11-month voyage across the ocean, the ship arrived at Sydney on 3 June 1790 and Wade was sent on to Norfolk Island aboard the Surprise, arriving on 7 August 1790. On 5 October 1788, Mary with another child, Jane Whiting, 14 years old, stole the clothes from Mary Phillips, an 8 year old, who at the time was collecting water in a bottle at a privy. Mary was reported by another child to an Officer of the Law who later found the tippet in Mary’s room whereupon she was arrested and placed in Bridewell Prison.

Life Summary [details]

The little one was taken up before, for stripping a child, and chucking her into a ditch; only she was too young. This was the Monday evening, the Monday before last, between six and seven o'clock; it was the same night it was done. - She is my child; she is eight years old next April.
Mary was one of fifty women fed bread and water in a cell that had neither beds nor lavatories. However, once aboard The Lady Juliana, her situation improved. All convicts were reasonably fed and given warm beds. Only five women and two children died during the eleven month voyage and the condition of those who arrived in the colony in 1790, had improved.
On 1 March 1790 Wade was sent to Norfolk Island on the Sirius. Atkinson  returned to Port Jackson when his sentence expired. Wade left Norfolk Island on the Francis on 2 February 1794 and in 1806 was recorded as living with Atkinson with one illegitimate son.

- Nobody advised me to go, and nobody told me; but the woman that took the cap off her head, that little one, robbed her of every thing she had; and Mrs. Matthews took the cap off the little one's head, and said she would ask the gentlewoman. I know Mrs. Matthews; she did not advise me to tell the woman in Charles-street. When I came home from my labour, on Friday, I enquired for my child, and a boy told me he sent her to the Treasury for a bottle of water; that was the 5th of this month. I came home at half after five; I live inCharles-street, Westminster; the child was not at home.
